The Surreal Comedy Care And Fear was directed by Li Yuhe, supervised by Er Dongsheng, and starred by Chen Xixu, Gao Ye, Ren Suxi, Dong Bo, Lou Yunfei, Geng Yizheng, Cao Rui and Chen Chunsheng. It is announced to be screened on April 14 nationwide with its posters and trailer unveiled today.

On the posters of Care And Fear is a slogan—“Spring Returns One Night.”—which implies much information. It tells a story with all the conflicts concentrated in one night. And “Spring Returns” also refers to the aphrodisiac in the film, which reveals one of the storylines.

At dusk, the only winding path on the distant mountain leads every relative character towards the place where all the conflicts break out——Xiankelai Grand Hotel. The short-circuited project lights on its signboard imply a surreal and ridiculous story is about to happen.

Care And Fear tells the story of an impotent man.Yang Baiwai (acted by Chen Xixu) and his wife Ma Lilian (acted by Gao Ye) run the “Xiankelai Grand Hotel”. Yang is an impotent pervert. He is suspicious of Ma’s fidelity for a series of coincidences. So he asks the folk doctor Bi Jianxiao to hire a killer to murder Ma. As a result, the well-designed murder is messed up by irrelevant passers-by. Thus it becomes a surreal and ridiculous story. All the characters have dreadful experiences for achieving their own purposes, such as impotence treatment, theft, murder and sex, which makes the story more and more interesting.

Thanks to its director Li Yuhe, the film Care And Fear becomes an auteur film with its unconventional narrative structure connecting various accidents with irrelevant characters and their destinies. Care And Fear seems like a jigsaw puzzle. Its director Li Yuhe said, “I mean to enable the audience to watch the film from God-like perspective. The greatest pleasure you can gain from the film is not just to listen to every character’s chatting and laughing, but to integrate the key information of every section and find that the story is not as simple as you might think before.”
